The Light Has Come

The Light Has Come,
The Light Has Overcome,
And the Light is Increasing!

“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end.”
– Isaiah 9:6-7a

What a beautiful promise to reflect on this advent season – His government (or rule) and peace are ever increasing and expanding! We are citizens of the Kingdom of Heaven, we are ambassadors of light. And the light is increasing as we are being transformed from glory to glory, with ever increasing glory! (2 Corinthians 3:18)

So what about the dark days? What about when bad stuff happens? This scripture reminds us that there is a reality that surpasses our physical reality. Our reality is righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. Our reality is the Kingdom of God. (Romans 14:7) For God is light, and we are in Him and in Him there is no darkness at all. (1 John 1:5)

Something to try this week: in the evening when it is dark, perhaps with your family or house-mates or small group, turn off all the lights. Light a candle and read the first verse of Isaiah 9. Have someone else light a second candle and read verse 2. Repeat until the end of verse 7. Experience the increasing of light. Share stories of how you have seen the increasing of God’s light in your own life or those you are ministering to. Have a time of prayer standing upon the promises…
