Global Day of Prayer and Fasting

4 November 2024

Dear Youth for Christ family,

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time. (1 Timothy 2:1-6, bold added)

This month, we are taking a break from our ePray series to focus our prayers on the United States Presidential Election, scheduled for November 5. You are receiving this email earlier than usual so you can join in praying before the day of prayer and fasting, which is on November 4.

To clarify, I am not encouraging you to pray for a particular election outcome but for the processes and the people involved. “Why focus on this specific election and not others?” you may ask. Firstly, the United States is the nation that birthed Youth for Christ, and it is where our International Office is located. Secondly, the United States is a major player in world affairs, and what happens in the USA greatly impacts what happens in other nations. This, of course, has a significant impact on the young people that we serve.

Ultimately, we have peace knowing that God is on the throne and Jesus is the King of all kings and Lord of all lords. Scripture encourages us to pray for those in leadership that “we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.” Many Christians in many nations are far from leading a peaceful and quiet life due to circumstances beyond their control. And yet God desires ALL people to be saved, including those making decisions and those deeply impacted by those decisions. Praise God that He made a way for ALL people to know true peace through Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for ALL. Pray that many will come to know this one mediator between God and men in these troubled times.

Attached is a prayer guide put together by 24-7 Prayer International. I encourage you to pray through this guide in the lead-up to November 5. You may like to focus on one of the points each day for eight days and then repeat. You may also like to pray for elections that are happening in your Area within the next few months.

Here is a prayer from the 24-7 Prayer International website that you could begin with:

Lord, I know that you are so much bigger than anything we are facing. Thank you that you reign above it all. As I pray today, I ask you to lead me into your perspective of the situation, full of your comfort, your authority, and your hope.

May the Lord continue to lead and guide you in all things,

Lyndal Walker

International Prayer Director

P.S. If you would like to do some creative prayer activities with a group, see the prayer activity guide attached.

In addition, don’t forget to pray that young people around the world will find their hope in Jesus Christ.
