We are blessed to hear what God is doing through WakeUp Deborah, this time from Alberta, Canada. Anna Espindola partnered with Calgary Youth Unlimited to start a movement of praying mothers. Take a few minutes to hear how the power of prayer is changing the lives of mothers and young people. Anna has also developed a resource to help mothers pray, called Praying for your Children. As well as watching the interview, you may like to watch the one minute video they have created.

Do you have WakeUp Deborah in your nation? If so, how could you get your local ministry involved? If not, what are you waiting for? Please reach out to [email protected] to help you get started.

Be blessed,

Lyndal Walker

International Prayer Director

Some suggestions for this month’s Global Day of Prayer and Fasting

  • Spend some time thanking God for His goodness and praising Him for who He is whether through word or song.
  • Watch the interview with Anna either by yourself or with your team.
  • Reflect: What stood out to you as you watched? One thing that stood out to me was she started out of a place of need in her own family and wanted to connect with other mothers to pray. Do you know of any mothers in your local area who are struggling with their teenagers? How could you encourage them to pray? Who could you connect them with? Another thing that stood out to me was the fact that many mothers are hurting and need healing so that they can mother well. Pray for the mothers (and fathers) of teenagers in your ministry. Ask God to heal them, to sustain them, to give them wisdom as they navigate parenting teenagers in this challenging time.
  • You may like to join in with this song.
  • Anna mentions the power of gathering to pray. Read Matthew 18:18-19 and Acts 12:5-17. Reflect: If you don’t have WakeUp Deborah in your nation yet, or don’t have the capacity to start it yet, is there a way you could gather some of the mothers of teenagers in your ministry to come together for a one-time prayer meeting to pray for their children? What resources would you need to make this happen? Spend some time planning an event. Who knows what the Lord may do through it!
  • Read Luke 15:11-32 (the story of the prodigal son). Anna mentioned how one child contacted their mother after not speaking to her for four years after a prayer event they held. Pray that prodigal children would return home, both to their earthly parents and to their heavenly Father. Maybe you could make a list of all the ones you know who have grown up with a faith background and are currently away from the Lord. Pray for each of them by name.
  • Continue praying for lost young people in your area, that they would come to a saving knowledge of Jesus. Have you ever written an acrostic? It’s a poem where each line is made up of the first letter of a word. Choose two or three young people you are praying for to be saved and make an acrostic with their names, declaring their salvation as you do so. Pin up the acrostics to keep praying for them throughout the month. Here’s an example:

I declare that Dave will be a:

Devoted follower of Jesus

Armed and ready for battle

Victorious over sin

Eternally saved

  • Continue to pray for more harvest workers so that more young people may be reached. Perhaps this month you could get a map of your nation and pray for particular regions that you know are lacking harvest workers.
