“A letter of Christ”

YFCI Global Day of Prayer & Fasting

Monday Feb 6, 2017

The world is longing for you and I to live like Jesus! Paul wrote in Romans 8:19 that “the anxious longing of the creation waits eagerly for the revealing of the children of God.” This means that every human heart, being part of creation, is longing to see the reality of Jesus displayed through our lives.

Our adoption as the children of God has brought us into such radical relationship with God that our hearts have been transformed by the Holy Spirit. Paul explains in 2 Corinthians 3:3,

“you are a letter of Christ, cared for by us, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.”

We have become letters written by the Holy Spirit Himself. God has caused us to be “born again into a living hope” (1 Peter 1:3) and, through us, makes His appeal to the world, to be reconciled in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:20).

This transformation and reconciliation is not the product of a program or strategy but our lives coming into contact with the very reality, nature and love of God! In Christ, we have become a letter to be read and experienced by people declaring the reality and truth of God! This letter is authored by the Spirit himself with fiery boldness, love and confidence.

A Youth for Christ staff in Canada recently shared this story:

A friend and I decided to walk around our community to pray. We talked to many people and a few stood out. One young man we met was named Rob. Rob was with a friend and they frequently attend our local Youth for Christ drop-in centre. Rob and his friend have heard the Gospel many times before. We had a long amazing conversation with him and were able to pray for and encourage him. After buying them pizza and talking for another hour, we prayed for his shoulders/back which have been sore for a long time. After receiving prayer Rob expressed that the pain in his shoulders and back had dramatically decreased. Rob told us that he knows a lot about God, but to experience God was new to Him.

This staff gave more than pizza that day. They offered prayer. Rob got to read the letter written on their heart that declared “Jesus loves you, Jesus is your healer and desires to reconcile you to Himself.” The transformation that happened was not the result of programs or strategies but a heart letter yielded to God’s love for another.

This staff’s story is a call for us to live and pray with boldness. Jesus himself writes on our hearts and calls us to burn with passion for those who are yet to know Him!

Next Monday (Monday, 6th February, 2017), is our Youth for Christ Global Day of Prayer and Fasting. My prayer for you, and our movement, is that the letter of Christ, written by the Spirit of the living God, would burn with evangelistic passion.

On Monday, join me in prayer, asking the Holy Spirit to empower Youth for Christ so that every young person would have the chance to read the letter of Christ lived through you and me.
